Why You Should Always Have A Sewing Machine In Your Home

In today's society, the do-it-yourself and make-it-yourself spirit that defined the United States in decades past is no longer the norm. Most people rely on retailers, service providers, and virtually anyone else that they can turn to, to take care of and do things for them. However, this reliance on others for virtually everything does have its downfalls. What if, for example, you can no longer afford the designer duds you need to get through your work day and/or your social life? Or what if that favorite outfit gets ripped and you need to wear it that same day? What are you going to do? Well, if you have a sewing machine in your home, you will be able to get through such scenarios unscathed. Learn some of the many reasons that you should always have a sewing machine in your home.

You Can Fixed Damaged Items Quickly And Inexpensively

Fabric is a fallible material. It can easy tear, rip, wear down, or otherwise become damaged throughout the course of regular use. For example, if you snag your dress and it tears down the seam, you may be ready to just throw the dress out entirely. Or, you may have to wait weeks to get it in to your tailor for repairs.

However, if you have a sewing machine in your home, a seam repair is extremely simple and fast to fix. All you need to do is load up your sewing machine with a matching thread color and set the stitch type on the machine to a straight stitch (no need to get fancy here).

Turn your dress inside out and pin the torn fabric back in place. Then simply sew a straight line starting just a few centimeters beyond the edge of the tear to a few centimeters past on the other side. Snip the thread between the machine and your dress. In a matter of five minutes or less your dress is ready to wear again.

You Can Repurpose Old Clothing

Do you have clothing items that you absolutely love and cannot get rid of, but they are just no longer in style? Rather than allowing these items to needlessly take up space in your closet, you can actually use your sewing machine to repurpose those items.

This can be accomplished in many ways. You can cut old clothing items into fabric squares and swatches and create blankets, quilts and throw pillows from them. Or, if you are adept at sewing and creative, you can actually turn old clothing into something new. Take the top from your little black dress and attach it to the full, ruffled skirt with a floral paisley print for a new and unique look that nobody else will have. You can easily create one-of-a-kind looks from clothing you already own.

As you can see, there are definite reasons to always have a sewing machine in your home. These are just a few of the many reasons to have this underrated piece of equipment on-hand at all times.
